Rennie Relief, Oct. 7, 2004
Klaus and Ingrid Weiland kicked off another grand Rennie Relief this year at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge just down the road from MDRF.
There was quite an array of arts available on the silent auction block and a buffet of glutonomous delights with delicious songs just across the hall on stage. This is a very intimate setting for Rennie Relief and brings me back to the community get-togethers which would have featured the roots of the blues, folk and Celtic tunes we were listening to, back to a time when people were always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need.
Keeping everyone on cue and everything on time was MC Joshua who works the old time portraits booth and plays part-time shoe elf for Medieval Mocassins during the week. Joshua was one of many, well a couple, of generous guest who brought their award winning entries in the MDRF Erotic food festival. There were cookies and pastries and pate which had been … well, this is a family article and those are needed to make a family, but perhaps we’ll leave some things unsaid.
As for the non-erotic but nonetheless exciting rest of the buffet, Ingrid had outdone herself on laying down a marvelous spread to keep everyone’s bellies happy for the bidding, and everyone who was bidding was getting pretty darn hungry since one of the donated prizes was a bushel of fine Maryland crabs, but of course to tease things further, they had prepared three succulent crustaceans covered in Old Bay Seasoning and steaming to perfection for a teaser display.
In all there were nine tables covered in donated artworks for the auction, most coming from Rennie artisans and other participants in the faire with incredible talents. The door and donations took in more than $3,000 and more is expected to come from others making donations.
